Research Fields: hydrology, water quality, and watershed management.
Research Background: Modeling analysis of groundwater quality (NO3-N) as the topic of his Ph.D. dissertation.
Current Research Topics: (1) Analysis on influences of climate change and watershed development against watershed hydrology, water quality, and habitat environment of benthic animals by using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). (2) Evaluation of paddy fields against the Environment paying attention to farming activities and water quality, and practical use of Tundra Swan’s feces to rice farming, through field surveys and modeling approaches.
Overseas Research Experiences: Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Texas, and Mozambique etc.

下流水環境の保全

Downstream Water Conservation

特に農地管理が周辺水環境,そして下流水域(湖沼や沿岸域)へ与える影響について研究を進めています.流量観測,水質分析,モデル解析などの手法を用いて,土地利用形態の違い,気象条件の違い,そして土地管理方法の違いなどに着目して水環境への影響を評価し,最適な流域管理について考えます.

We are conducting research on the impact of farmland management on the surrounding water environment and downstream areas (such as lakes and coastal regions). Using methods such as flow measurement, water quality analysis, and model-based analysis, we evaluate the effects on the water environment by focusing on differences in land use patterns, meteorological conditions, and land management practices, aiming to determine optimal watershed management strategies.

持続可能な土地管理

Sustainable Land Management

輸出作物(コーヒーなど)を栽培している山地流域において,それを起因とする水環境問題の解決に向け,持続的な土地利用の在り方を考えています.聞き取り調査,水質分析,モデル解析などを行うと共に,現地で入手可能な未利用有機資材の高機能化による農地土壌保全の方法を模索しています.

In mountain watershed areas where export crops, such as coffee, are cultivated, we are exploring sustainable land use practices to tackle water environmental issues resulting from these activities. Along with conducting interviews, water quality analyses, and model simulations, we are investigating methods for soil conservation on sloped agricultural lands by enhancing the functionality of locally available, underutilized organic materials.

灌漑水の効果的・効率的利用

Effective and Efficient Use of Irrigation Water

乾期もしくは半乾燥地では,灌漑用水の効果的・効率的な分配が非常に重要です.栽培カレンダーや現地住民の水利用に関する調査を通して,水分配の問題点を整理し,圃場や流域における灌漑のタイミングや量の最適化を目指します.

In dry or semi-arid regions, the effective and efficient distribution of irrigation water is crucial. Through surveys on planting calendars and local water use, we aim to identify issues with water distribution and optimize the timing and amount of irrigation in fields and watersheds.

人間活動と生態系との調和

Balancing Human Activities and Ecosystems

流域において,農業用水,生活用水,工業用水,生態系維持用水のバランスをとりながら水資源を有効に利活用することが重要です.現地調査,統計資料解析,モデル解析結果から水利用バランスを評価し,状況を改善するための戦略を考察します.

In watersheds, it is important to effectively utilize water resources while balancing agricultural water, domestic water, industrial water, and water for ecosystem maintenance. Through field surveys, statistical data analysis, and model-based analysis, we evaluate the water use balance and consider strategies to improve the situation.
