Although the maximum user rate of IMT-2000 is 2Mbit/s, more than hundred times higher multimedia services are expected for the next generation mobile communication systems.
To realize such broadband data services and to cope with huge number of users, the high capacity capability will become the important object for the future systems.
Therefore, the target of research is focused on the development of system capacity increasing technologies, mobile radio link design methods, and seamless layered cell structure methods for the future systems.
1. Transmission and access technologies
- Multiple radio access method
Research on a time and space division multiple access method based on the SDMA and time division multiplexing techniques for realizing future high capacity mobile communication systems.
- Multiple antenna transmission technique
Research on signal processing for future high capacity mobile communication systems with MIMO channel signal transmission techniques.
- OFDM transmission / Frequency domain equalization techniques
Research on the establishment of transmitter and receiver design for OFDM transmission and frequency domain equalization.
- Mobile seamless transmission technique
Research on transmission techniques to offer seamless service areas where users can make communications without any considerations on vehicular, pedestrian, indoor, and other mobile environments.
2. Mobile radio link design method
- Research on the establishment of design methods for key parameters in mobile radio networks, such as transmission powers of base and mobile stations, cell radius, and frequency reuse conditions.
3. Layered cell structure method
- Research on a cell structuring to offer seamless service areas where users can make communications without any considerations on vehicular, pedestrian, indoor, and other mobile environments.
